Cape Coral's city manager has a renewed contract

Welcome back Terry Stewart.  Now that his contract has been renewed with Cape Coral not everyone thinks he has done what is necessary for the job.  Well, I’m a firm believer that sometimes you just need to re-evaluate what you have done, what you can change to do better and use the hind site that is always 20/20 to help heal this city that has been so damaged by the investor craze of the past. The over zealous spending by the city for services that make you shake your head. Case in point:

1. Finally we are looking at a new city building that when proposed initially at $110M        (I new that was crazy. Everyone you talked to thought is was crazy. Who and why at the city thought it was a good idea?} It is now down to $30M. Much better! I don’t know what the plan is for the existing building? Anyone?

2. Sewer and water expansion.  We had an audit done to see why the cost to the home owner was so exorbitant. This is another, what were they thinking.  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that digging a trench 80’ long and burying 3 pieces of pipe 80’ long (one large, one medium, and one small) at a cost of $20+k? That doesn’t even seem close to OK.  Ask anyone about the results of the audit and know one knows. We spent a lot of money for something that no one understands the outcome. Heads should role for this. Now we are getting another audit.  I hope this time an “independent” audit to fix this.  Magically the cost has come down about $7k.  This should have been done before.  A lot of homeowners have been hurt and someone very rich and the city did nothing to protect its citizens. Shame, Shame!

Terry doesn’t need time to get to know the workings of the city of Cape Coral.  He knows all the parties that are here.  Roll up your sleeves. Now is the time to help get this city back to economic health.  Protect the citizens that are still here.  Encourage new business and new residence to come here to Paradise. We are all on strict budgets.  The city needs to be on one too. I trust that he will take the criticisms and use it to bring us back to the Waterfront Wonderland we love.
